Be colourblind !

Quoted Article: Sunday Times, " Speaking of race", dated 6/5/07.

Have you ever wondered why people discriminate against one another? Must one really resent another race so much that it causes uproar? If we were to come across another race doing something either inappropriate, or somewhat make us dislike them, wouldn't that just be an overgeneralization? Others coming from the same race may not be like them as different families bring their children up differently, which therefore explains the difference in behaviour. Also, I feel that racial abhorrence originated from insensitivity, selfishness and self-centred thinking, which therefore leads to the indifference to other racial beings, isolating one group of race with another.

Personally, I do not have any grudge against any race. I feel that in order for us to all live in harmony, the only way is to turn colour-blind and classify ourselves up as one. In fact, why is there a need to view others differently? Aren't we all human? Do we need to go till the extent of coming up with racist jokes that are totally hurting, or to curse and swear about the other races?

Having read the article, I feel that the reason behind her being most uncomfortable with Caucasians is perhaps what she feels about the Caucasians, who had the mentality that they are more "high-classed" and of superiority as compared to any other races since long time ago. In my perspective, no party should actually feel any form of dislike or uncomforted towards each other because of the fact that we were brought up in a racial harmony emphasized country. Don't we all realise that diplomatic ties are built up with different countries, different races? We should now forget about the different colours we see in the world, but to stay united so as to help keep all countries prosperous. Racial harmony - it's simply all about staying colour blind!

US college Massacre : Killer was South Korean student

I was utterly disgusted and shocked by the South Korean's act when I first read the article. How could one ever resort to massive killing to people he did not even know simply because of his hatred?
I feel that the act of the South Korean was equivalent to that of terrorism, leading to the deaths of at count 34. I think that the school should be partly blamed for this incident to happen because they failed to take precautions against this mentally unstable person. Even though violence was shown in his play scripts, the school did not follow him closely to monitor him psychologically and therefore failed to take any action to stop this tragedy. This is supported by an article, stating that the universities officials did not act fast enough to warn students of an unfolding tragedy that grew as details surfaced about the shootings.
In actual fact, I pity this killer as he may be suffering from mental illness, therefore contributing to the weird personality he had. The shock that was beyond description over the fact that the tragic incident was caused by the South Korean native who has permanent residency shown on President Roh Moo-Hyun proves that one would never expect a student to do such a thing. Also, being an introvert who did not have many friends and is isolated in his own world, he got bullied in school most of the time and therefore I think this may be the cause to his sadistic behaviour.Other factors such as the failure to notice the hatred that was slowly built on in him by his parents also caused this sorrowful incident to happen. I feel that his parents should also be responsible for his behaviour because they may have neglected him, which in turn allowed him to think and do whatever he liked.
In conclusion, I feel that this incident would cause much shivers, and that it will somehow affect the number of people going abroad to study as parents fear that the same plight of dying in the hands of a massive killer would happen to their children.
